I am space owner and administrator, but can't see the content

I am space owner and administrator, but can't see the content myself as well as other since I added a few users. I've requested access, which should sent an email?? notification to myself, but I don't receive anything. How can this be fixed?

I've also tried to enable anonymous access, but even then I can't see the content.

As a Space Administrator, you can view and modify page restrictions across the entire space without needing direct view access to the page content itself. You can try either of the below methods:

Method 1: Remove Page Restrictions via Space Settings (Recommended for All Plans)

Navigate to your space in Confluence.
Select Space settings from the left-hand sidebar.
Under the Manage content (or Manage pages) section, click Restricted (or Restricted pages).
Review the list of restricted pages:
- Pay special attention to the Space Home Page or top-level parent pages.
Click the Padlock icon (🔒) next to the restricted page.
In the restrictions modal:
- Remove the View restriction entirely to make it open to the space, OR
- Explicitly add yourself and the relevant user groups (e.g., confluence-users or your team group) with Can view or Can edit access.
Save your changes and refresh the page.

Method 2: Use the Admin Key (Confluence Premium & Enterprise Only)

If your site is on a Premium or Enterprise plan, Site and Space Administrators can temporary elevate permissions:

Navigate to the URL of the restricted page.
On the "You've stumbled on restricted content" prompt, click the View now button on the Admin Key banner.
Once the Admin Key is active, click the Padlock icon at the top right of the page.
Adjust or clear the page restrictions so that the required users and groups have access.

Hi @Mark van Beek

Are you in a Team managed or Company managed space? Click on the three dots to the right of the space name and look at the bottom of the pop-up. It should say Team managed or Company Managed.

If you are in a Team managed project you need to be added to the Space if you aren't in a group that have user access to the space. (Go to Space setting -> Access

If you are in a Company managed space make sure you have the permission "Browse projects" for the space in question (Space settings -> Permissions)

To verify that there are no issues with the Space Permissions, I would suggest following:

Select the wheel icon () in the top-right corner to open Confluence administration.
Find Settings > Security in the left-hand navigation.
Select Space permissions.
Locate the space and select Recover Permissions. (If you're already an admin in the space, you'll see Manage Permissions.)

The community answer pointing you to Space Settings > Restricted Pages is exactly right for the immediate fix. Page restrictions in Confluence override space permissions entirely, which is why being a space admin was not enough to see the content. Stripping the view restrictions from those pages should restore access for everyone.

The underlying problem, though, is a familiar one: restrictions accumulate silently over time, and there is no built-in way to get a site-wide picture of which pages have them, who holds access on each, and whether any of those holders are deactivated accounts causing invisible lockouts.

Hi all, thanks for the replies. I didn't find a solution yet though. But I also have very little time at the moment, will come back to it next week..

I've looked at page restrictions, but don't see any applied. And I don't see mentioned scenarios and security options..

A good first check is the named page’s explicit restrictions, rather than only the space permissions. For a single page, a read-only preview is:

`chmod -n ./PageTitle`

If you have confirmed the exact target and want to change a restriction, the explicit confirmation form is:

`chmod -y clear ./PageTitle`

or use a specific `read=` / `update=` token. `-n` previews changes; `-y` confirms writes. Shell for Confluence is optional here, and this is intended for a named page—not a bulk migrator. Mark, the screenshot gives it away. Space in the sidebar, no content, request access screen. That's an account with no View on the space, not a page restriction.

Easy one to miss. Owner or admin on paper doesn't guarantee View survived a round of changing who's in the space, so go to Space settings > Users (Permissions on older sites) and check the role on your own account or group actually includes viewing.

Locked out of space settings too? The Recover Permissions route Christof posted gets back in.

Tried it on a test site. Took View off an admin, all the content vanished, gave it back and it came right back.

Did adding those users touch the groups you're in?

Glad it's sorted, Mark. A restriction after all, on the home page. My read of the screenshot was wrong.

A restricted home page looks exactly like that from the outside, empty space and the request access screen, so the home page is the first thing to check when this comes up.
