Count issues by a field from a linked issue and drill through to source issues

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to build a report with the following requirement:

• Issue Type A is linked to Issue Type B.
• Issue Type B has a custom field called Risk Category Level with values such as Low, Medium, and High.
• I want to count Issue Type A issues based on the Risk Category Level of their linked Issue Type B.

Expected output:

Risk Category Level	Count of Issue Type A
Low	15
Medium	22
High	8

Additionally, when a user drills through or clicks on the count, I would like to see the underlying Issue Type A issues.

Hi @PLaksh11 ,

There's no native way to group or search Issue Type A by a field on its linked issues — JQL can't reach across links. The standard workaround is to mirror the field onto Issue Type A with Automation:

1. Create the same "Risk Category Level" select field on Issue Type A (e.g. "Risk Category Level (from ").
2. Automation rule: trigger Field value changed (Risk Category Level, on Issue Type → branch For linked issues (your link type) → action Edit issue to copy the trigger issue's value into the mirror field. Add a second rule on the Issue linked trigger so newly linked issues get the value too.
3. For existing issues, run a one-time backfill (e.g. a Scheduled trigger with a JQL scope, then disable it).

Once the mirror field is populated, a native Pie Chart or Two Dimensional Filter Statistics gadget on a filter like issuetype = "Issue Type A" gives you exactly the Low/Medium/High counts, and clicking a slice/count opens the issue navigator with the underlying Issue Type A issues — that's your drill-through.
