Hi everyone,
We are currently evaluating our Confluence Cloud access model and have a requirement to provide read-only access to approximately 1,000 internal users who only need to view space content, with zero permissions to create or edit pages.
For our use case, two capabilities are absolute must-haves:
Page-Visit Analytics: We need visibility into who is viewing the content and how often.
Comment Participation: Users must be able to view and participate in page comment threads.
We’ve reviewed several options so far, but hit a few roadblocks:
Guest Access: We explored this feature, but we understand it is restricted to external users outside of our organization's domain. Because these 1,000 users have email addresses that end with our organization's domain, this option is unavailable to us. (Please correct us if our assumption here is incorrect!)
Third-Party Exporters: We looked at alternatives like Scroll PDF Exporter, but exporting content strips out page-visit analytics and introduces a massive, ongoing maintenance and distribution overhead for our teams.
Jira Service Management (JSM) Knowledge Base: While linking a Confluence space to a JSM project allows unlicensed users to view content via the portal, it falls short because users cannot view comment threads or participate in discussions through that view.
Given these constraints and our requirement for analytics and commenting, how are other large organizations handling this? Are there any creative workarounds, third-party apps, or upcoming roadmap items (such as internal stakeholder/viewer tiers or site-wide options) that would allow us to provide cost-effective read-only access for internal users under our domain?
Appreciate any guidance or advice the community can share!
Thanks,
Susheela
