Hi, I created 2 projects. I made it disable too. I tried to delete them, but i could not. From project setting i could not see the option of deleting them. Instead I see archive, and i archived it. for learning sake i was trying. Also i wanted to create backlog, user stories, and task how?

Hi @Madhav Jaligama , sorry for the slow reply on this one, your question got past me.

On permissions, if that site has always been on the Free plan then nothing is gated behind a role for you. Atlassian's own wording is that on Free "everyone with access to Jira is an admin for all Jira spaces", so you can create the projects, the boards and the work items. What Free takes away is the ability to customise any of that, so no permission schemes, no roles and no work item security. If a site was on a paid plan first and dropped to Free, whatever it had is kept but you can't edit it until you upgrade again.

For the backlog and the stories, the piece that usually catches people is that the backlog comes from the template rather than from a setting. Create the project with the Scrum template and Backlog is there in the sidebar straight away. If you picked Kanban you have to switch it on yourself, in a team-managed project it's Project settings, Features, Backlog, and in a company-managed one it's the board's settings. Once the backlog is showing, the Create button makes the work items and you drag them between Backlog and Sprint. Story and Task are just issue types on that same Create screen.

Support tickets are a different product rather than a different permission. Raising and tracking customer requests through a portal is Jira Service Management, which you subscribe to separately, and it has its own free tier. In plain Jira you can absolutely make a project and use Task or Bug for internal requests, you just don't get the portal or the SLAs.

And yes, your instinct about the big company sites is right, they were almost certainly on Premium or Enterprise. Free is capped at 10 users and 2 GB of storage, it sends at most 100 notification emails a day, and it has no audit log at all. The paid tiers are where permission schemes, work item security and the planning features live, which is most of what feels missing when you come from a large site.

Thanks a lot for your reply and sorry for late response.  One quick question, with the given permissions for my role, can i create Jira support tickets and scrum (for backlog, user stories and tasks etc). It would be great if there is a threads. One thing I noticed, Jira that i used with big companies, is not the same with free version? (does paid version has many features and free version have less features?)

As Gabriela mentioned, if the project has already been archived, you'll first need to restore it before you can move it to the trash.

Also, whether you can delete the project depends on the project type and your permissions. For company-managed projects, you must be a Jira Administrator to move the project to the trash. For team-managed projects, a Project Administrator can move the project to the trash.

If you don't see the Move to trash option after restoring the project, your account likely doesn't have the required administrative permissions.
