We have a DL and use it in filters (membersof). Why can't I use the DL in to create a Team?

We use a DL in some of our Jira filters by utilizing the membersof() function.  The DL or distribution list is a single point where a manager can add new members to their team. 

The Teams function in Jira requires a manager to add/remove team members as part of a separate list. This adds additional work and sources of error for managers. 

Why can't I use the DL when creating a Team in JIRA?

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

The membersOf() function works only with Teams and User Groups. If you have a "DL" that you are referencing in the function, then it must be a user group.

You can synchronize the members of a Team to a user group.

If that user group is locally defined within Atlassian Cloud then the instructions for synchronization are here:
