visualising milestones at initiative level

Question

I'm using a jira advanced roadmap to visualize initiatives that will be delivered across a number of different teams. I want to add vertical milestone markers against the initiatives in my plan but this doesn't seem to be possible. The next best option would be to add them in the timeline view of the high level space I'm using for the strategy and initaitive level issue types. But timelines in spaces don't allow you to view initiatives.

What is my solution here?

Hi @henry_bersani

If you're open to exploring reporting tools from the marketplace, eazyBI for Jira could help you visualize milestones at the initiative level.

eazyBI integrates with Jira Advanced Roadmaps (Plans) and allows you to:

* Use the Issue dimension with the Plans hierarchy to display initiatives and their child issues (Epics, Stories, Milestones) in a structured way
* Build a Gantt chart showing initiatives with start and end dates, including milestone markers represented as individual issue rows. Or choose other chart types if needed and add milestones in those charts as well.
* Filter and group by initiative level, and see the progress of child issues rolled up to the initiative

Here is an example of a Gantt chart built in eazyBI. The can also be color-coded by their current status. You can take a look at our demo dashboard as well for other chart examples -  https://eazybi.com/accounts/1000/dashboards/14871-chart-types

Best wishes,

Hi @henry_bersani,

I am not aware of a way to display such milestones in Jira using only the built-in tools.

If you want to try a plugin from Atlassian Marketplace, such milestones can be displayed in an initiative burndown chart by using the Release Burndown Burnup Chart gadget offered by our Great Gadgets app.

The gadget can be cross-initiative, cross-project, or cross-team; depending on the JQL used. See more details this article: https://community.atlassian.com/forums/App-Central-articles/How-to-display-the-progress-of-Epics-or-Initiatives-in-Jira-or/ba-p/2858840

Hope this helps.

Danut.

Hey @henry_bersani ,

I kind of hack it with releases. It's not ideal, but for some projects where we would like to visualize this, I create releases that 'mimic' milestones.

As for actual milestones, there's a feature request for it: JRACLOUD-89585: Milestones for Advanced Roadmaps

A while back, I was with the PM team discussing this, but I'm not sure what the current development status of it is. 🫤

Cheers,
