when i start from "To Do" to "in progress", current date to be populated automatically in actual start field. is there way?
Hello @Ramesh Krishnan
Good day! Welcome to Atlassian Community!
To update the Actual Start field with the date/time when the work item was transitioned from "To Do" to "In Progress", you can set up an Automation Rule as shown in the screenshot below:
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
Yes, that can be done with an automation Rule or with a post function in the workflow transition from To Do to In Progress.
Are you familiar with either of those options?
What type of Space does this concern; Team-managed or Company-managed?
Do you have Project Admin access for the project or Jira App Admin access?
Your code works for individual issue type. example i have story with epic, same actual start date to be populated to epic level. this should apply first story changed into to do to inprogress and corresponding actual start date.
Company-managed
Project admin access. i have rights write the automation script.
Hi @Ramesh Krishnan
To update the Parent Epic Actual Start, you can modify the rule as follows:
I hope this helps!
i tried it, your script work for all stories. but i want to update for epic act start date based on first story changed from to do to inprogress. when i change status in 2nd or 3 rd story, the date should not ovewritten in epic. Date should stay with first story.
Condition: epic actual start date = first story actual start date
Related to wanting the epic updated only for the first child story transition you could try a couple of things
If the date in the Epic will only be set by this automation rule, then after the Re-fetch action you could add a Condition to check that the date field is empty. That will prevent this rule from overwriting a value already in the epic date field
