No Jira backup for standard level ?

It appears that the new Jira Cloud backup system will only be available as a purchased add on for Enterprise customers according to:

The email:

From: Atlassian info@e.atlassian.com

Sent: 29 September 2025 18:04

Subject: [Attention] Backup Manager API deprecation

warns that the current API  /rest/backup/1/export/runbackup  is going be deprecated on 30th March 2026  but the email goes on to incorrectly say we can do manual backups using:

Settings > System > Import and export > Backup manager > Backup for cloud > Create backup for cloud

That is wrong because if you look at the workings of that page in Chrome debug, you will see it is using the same API to trigger the runbackup

So, what now for backups on standard level Jira instances ? Will Atlassian open up the new system to other plan levels ?

Can any 3rd party apps be trusted ? or are they simply using these same API's that are due for deprecation ?

I am from Revyz, we help Atlassian Cloud customers with Configuration Management and Data Protection aka Backup & Restore, among other use cases.

We were using the Atlassian Connect framework up until October of last year at which point we migrated over to Forge.

Given that we support granular backup and restore, we use the Atlassian published APIs available here - https://developer.atlassian.com/

We don't use internal API's in our app's. I can't speak for other vendors, but this is what we do. With the latest announcement of the API's we are not impacted, and in addition to the latest announcement of the latest Atlassian paid backup solution we see it to be complementary to what we have to offer using our apps.

Hi @jsinger_ips

It's a good question and hopefully there's some clarification from Atlassian but my assumption is the manual method will still be available, just point or redirect to a different API behind the scenes.  I can't see Atlassian removing that functionality entirely and not having a manual backup available.
