How to create an automation rule that checks for mentions in comment and transfers them to a cfield?

Hello atlassian community!

I want to create an automation rule that:

-> trigger on issue commented

-> if the initiator belongs to a certain group "Jira-servicedesk"

Then; Jira should take the mentions in the comment and extract them to a customfield (multiple user picker) to see, who commented and give him a notification that he should reply to that comment where he is mentioned.

If the mentioned user repied, then delete him out of the list.

Is there a way to make this automation ?

Hi @Artur

First thing: when responding to suggested answers, please try to stay with that thread.  This will help people reading the question in the future know when there are multiple solution approaches.

Next, the question of how to extract mentioned users in a comment and add them to a multiple-selection user field has been asked many times.  A search of community posts will show mostly complete solution approaches.

The general steps are:

* Use text functions to extract any user account ID values from the comment; the user mention format is described here 
* Use a list iterator and a dynamic JSON expression to update the custom field to add the users in the advanced edit of a Edit Work Item action 
* The later step you describe, of removing the user from the field selections if they replied seems like it would be a different rule, or additional steps in this one. The steps would be to remove the user with text or list functions, and then update the field as described above.

Please try that approach, and if you still need help, please post the following to provide more context:

* an image of your complete rule in one single image for continuity
* images of the rule trigger, actions, conditions, and branches
* an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution
* explain what is not working as expected, and why you believe that to be the case

You're right, but I would like to save the mentioned ones into customfield / variable to be able to track my mentions, when I search for my issues and add it to my dashboard to be able to check out where I haven't commented yet. So in theory everyone could check, if there are issues, where someone needs to comment, but he has forgotten.

Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

Jira already sends out an email notification whenever somebody is mentioned. So not sure what extra value this automation would create.

For the trigger, you can create a "Work item Commented" trigger with a "User Condition".

"User who triggered the event" "Is in Usergroup".

In the automation rule, you can then get the "Mention" from the comment and put it into a variable.

Then, based on the content of this variable, you can perform the required actions.
