Code sippets with titles

Question

We're in the middle of patching up misformatting resulting from the forced Confluence Cloud Editor migration, and one particular construction is proving to be a sticking point.

In the Legacy Editor, we often have code blocks with a title inside a numbered list item. Code Snippets in the new editor cannot be given a title (Rovo notwithstanding), but a work around is to use a plain, custom info box and put the title as text in that, together with the code snippet. But info boxes cannot live inside list items.

Will we see restoration of code snippet titles? (Ideally really soon, because our pages are getting migrated whether we like it or not.) Otherwise, what is the best work-around, and can that workaround be automated?

The impediment is that headings and layout boxes break out of the list items; they exist at the top level (and break the list organization/formatting).

I've been finding that it's just quicker to restructure the text on a case-by-case basis that to try to solve these reference/formatting issues through other manipulations with macros and boxes. Time consuming either way, unfortunately.

Can you simply introduce the code block with a regular heading just above the box? If you go with H4 and smaller, they will not have the in-your-face look.

If it's not desirable for those code headings to appear in the page's TOC, you can modify TOC to display only H2 and H3 headings.

Other options:

* the already mentioned expand box 
* a single column layout box that would contain a heading and a code box.
* there's the divider macro...

Hi @Sam Yates ,

As you've discovered, the new cloud editor does not support adding titles to code snippets, and I don't think there's an official workaround you could use apart from redesigning it by using some other elements/macros 👀

I've mainly seen people doing some redesigns manually, and there's this method Barbara mentioned.

I'll be honest, I haven't used the old editor that much, so maybe someone else has some suggestions on what you could do here 🤔
