How do I create defects and track them?

I am trying to figure out how to input defect information and track resolution, but I don't know where to start in Jira.

There you can find courses for all skill levels.

* Get started quickly with Jira

If you are the only administrator for the Jira instance, I would also recommend this learning path.

Set up Jira software projects to enable your team

In order to create issues in Jira you must first have a Project in Jira, since Projects are the containers for issues (aka "work items"). Creating projects is addressed in the learning path I linked above.
