Does Simple Tables plan to support enum (single-select) columns?

Hi Simple Tables team, first, massive kudos. We’re genuinely surprised by how much functionality Simple Table packs in, and that it’s free. Since we started using it at our company, it’s become a daily, heavy-use tool across teams.

Feature ask: an enum / single-select column type. Simple use case: a Status column with allowed values Open / In progress / Done.

Ideally we could:

* define the allowed values (and optionally block free text),

* show them as small pills (or plain text),

* filter/group by the value,

* and export the raw value to CSV.

Is enum support on the roadmap? Any recommended workaround today to approximate this in Simple Tables?

Thanks so much, @Mia Tamm _Simpleasyty_ that’s awesome news! 🎉 Great to hear the single-select (enum) column is rolling out and that it works with filters, grouping, and CSV/Excel export.

A few quick follow-ups:

* Can we restrict to the allowed list (block free text), and optionally let editors add new options on the fly?
* Will there be pill display (and ideally per-option colors) in addition to plain text?
* For export, just to confirm: CSV/Excel will contain the selected option string (no styling), right?
* Is there a way to convert an existing Text column to Enum and auto-suggest options from the current values?

We’re happy to try it as soon as it appears in our instance and share feedback. Thanks again for the fast response and for building such a powerful app!

Hi @Samuel Huber! 😄Amazing timing — it’s like you read our roadmap.

We’re rolling out a new single-select (enum) column type right now. You’ll be able to define a list of options (e.g., Open / In progress / Done) and choose one per row. It will work with filters, grouping, and CSV/Excel export (we export the selected value).

While it reaches your instance, a simple workaround is to use a Text column with normalized values (Open/In progress/Done) and rely on filters/grouping. We’re also exploring colored “pills” for display — once you try the feature, we’d love your feedback on that.
