I'm unable to add people to my project // it's asking me to upgrade in order for me to manage roles

Question

I'm unable to add people to my project -- it's not allowing me to set a role because "Project roles aren't editable on the free plan." It's asking me to upgrade for the advanced team configuration.

Do I really need to upgrade in order to add a team member to my project?

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

On the free plan the way you add people to projects is by adding them to your instance from admin.atlassian.com. Because you are on the free plan anyone that is added to your instance will have access to all projects. If you want to limit which projects a user have access to then you have to upgrade to the standard plan.
