Is it possible to get wysiwyg editing into the "Create" dialog?

Recently I posted about enabling wysiwyg in the status change dialog.

Now, how can I do that in the "Create" dialog?

Currently I have to create an issue without notes, save, then click back into the issue to populate the description with formatted (headings, bullets) content.

Sure would be convenient for wysiwyg capability to be present during the initial creation so I don't have to touch an issue twice.

Possible?

I don't have default content or require repeating previous content. I'm just looking for the ability to add headings, italics, bold, links, bullets, etc. when creating an issue. Right now all I get is a plain textarea with no formatting options. That's why I have to go BACK to each issue and create the description as a second step. I can edit the description with wysiwyg capability, I just can't CREATE it with wysiwyg.

If you’re looking for an easy and flexible way to use templates or during issue creation, you’ll need to rely on third-party apps from the Atlassian Marketplace. There are several great options available here.

If you don`t want to rely on addons, you could also prefill a paragraph-style custom field with default content. You can find a guide here

There are different types of fields you can configure in Jira, and it sounds like you’re using a field type that doesn’t support rich text formatting. If you use the default Description field, for example, you should see the full set of formatting options (like headings, bullet points, etc.).

In general, custom fields of the type Paragraph (multi-line text) support these formatting features as well.

It would be helpful if you share some screenshots of your configuration and issue view.

This is our Create Issue view. You can see Description offers no formatting options.

I'm not sure what configuration I should be looking at (Jira is SO confusing). I am looking at Jira admin settings -> Fields -> Field configurations. I see "Description" listed there. It is currently using the Default Text Renderer. I appear to be able to change it to use the Wiki Style Renderer, and that will affect all 13,000+ issues it's used on. I don't want to update how the description is handled on existing issues. We have no problem editing the description on existing issues. The problem is only when creating the issue. When editing existing issues we have full wysiwyg capability for the description.

You’ll need to change the renderer to Wiki Style Renderer in order to enable formatting options. This change won’t negatively affect your existing issues — the content should retain its formatting as expected.

If you happen to encounter any unexpected issues after switching, you can easily revert back to the default renderer at any time.
