Add a link to the Jira issue in a Github PR

We've recently moved from Shortcut to Jira for our delivery management. The Shortcut <> Github integration would add a comment to the Github PR with a link back to the Shortcut story. Useful to quickly navigate back and forth.

Is there a way to achieve this with Jira? Does the Jira <> Github integration provide any similar functionality or can this be achieved through Jira automations in some way?

A quick search of the Github Integration by Atlassian, brought me to there documentation:

Where I found this:

Use work item keys to link development data to Jira work items

To link your GitHub development data to Jira, you must add a Jira work item key to your commit message, branch name, or PR title.

So, I think that answers the question? Best to just install and test of course :-).

Hi Jeroen,

Not quite the automated process that I was hoping for. This still requires someone to manually add the work item key to a Github comment. I was hoping that the link could be added to as a Github comment automatically, however, this might just be a limitation of the integration that we'll have to work with.

@Zak Siddique - When you (or your developers) create a new branch of your main branch within GitHub, if you name it using the Jira work item key, it should link it and show it within the Development section within Jira. I have used this feature and it works pretty seemless and is very useful to connect Jira items with Branches/Pull Requests.
