Unable to remove duplicate status

Question

There seems to be an issue where you can't delete unmapped statuses (like you should be able to). I accidentally created a duplicate statuses: one is mapped to the swimlane labelled the same (which I want to keep) but the other is unmapped and needs to be deleted to avoid tickets going in the wrong status and affecting tracking/automations. I've tried to delete the duplicated status and it keeps showing an error message

There’s a temporary glitch or browser issue. Sometimes caching or session issues cause this. Try a hard refresh (Ctrl + Shift + R) or open Jira in incognito mode.

Check Workflow Status Mapping

Go to Project Settings → Workflows.

Edit the workflow and ensure the duplicate status is not used in any transitions.

Remove the transitions connected with the unwanted status.

It's not possible to delete the status, when the workflow connected with any project.

Make a copy of workflow and delete the unwanted status. Re-add the workflow to the necessary project.

in this way you can get rid of unwanted status.
