Hello to all, I am working on a checklist but I am wondering how to create a templete from a checklist? thanks
Hey @Miguel Horta , welcome to the community! Can you please clarify which checklist app you are using?
Hi @Miguel Horta ,Great question!
It depends on how you're currently using checklists—whether through a custom field like "Checkboxes," directly in the issue Description, or via a Marketplace app.
If you're looking to use Jira’s native action items (the checklists in the Description field), there's currently no built-in way to save and reuse them as templates.
As an alternative, you might find our free app, Easy Action Items – Checklist Templates and Automation, helpful. It lets you create reusable checklist templates and even automate their insertion based on issue type and issue labels.
Hope that helps!Pavel
P.S. feel free to reach out to us - we'd be happy to help!
Hi @Miguel Horta
if you're interested in Marketplace add-ons, take a look at Issue Templates for Jira (developed by the company I work for).It lets you create templates that include checklists, custom fields, descriptions, attachments, and more. Here's a link to the app's Support Center if you want to read more about it.
Welcome to the community, @Miguel Horta.
Another idea would be to create a template issue which contains the checklist and then clone the issue, using the Jira native clone.
If you need some advanced templating functionality, you can explore the Atlassian Marketplace. We also provide a templating solution, called Deep Clone for Jira. I am the product manager of the app.

Hello @Yuliia Tkachenko_TitanApps_ I am using the personal checklist app from Jira
@Miguel Horta looks like they don't have an option to save checklist as a template. I suggest you to check out Smart Checklist for Jira - it has a free version of an app, you can create custom checklists and save them as a templateLear more here
Hope it helps! 🤗
Hi @Miguel Horta - great question and lots of good suggestions here already!
Just adding another option in case your team ever needs more flexibility when working with checklists in Jira.
We’re building a plugin called Tick, which is designed specifically for teams who manage recurring processes and need more control over their checklists.
With Tick, you can:- Create and save reusable checklist templates- Assign items to teammates, add due dates, and track progress- View checklist tasks across all issues in one place
If your checklist needs grow over time, it might be worth exploring solutions like that — especially if your team is using Jira as your main project hub.
Happy to share more details if it’s useful!
