How do you duplicate an epic but not all the child issues?

Hi! We have a bunch of templates sitting in our Structure, but I'm wondering if there's a way to recreate/clone one of these epics, and pick and choose which child issues to add? From what I can see, I can only recreate and then resolve the tickets I no longer need.

Welcome to the Atlassian community, regarding your question, there are several examples in the Community that can help you create an Automation rule to copy the Epic and all the children, for example: Automation: How to clone Epic WITH Child Issues AND their Subtasks (link: https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Jira-questions/Automation-How-to-clone-Epic-WITH-Child-Issues-AND-their/qaq-p/2588533)

So, as you describe, you want to choose some of the children, in this case you would need to add IF statement when iterating the Epic children and if the child issue meets the criteria then it gets copied.

If you're open to Marketplace add-ons, Issue Templates for Jira (developed by the company I work for) allows you to clone epics with selected child issues.

I am Marlene, product manager of Deep Clone for Jira.

If you're open to working with a Marketplace app, you could try out Deep Clone for Jira. With the app, you can clone Epics and larger issue hierarchies, which copies the whole issue tree.

But on top of that you can also clone a bulk of issues and keep the hierarchy. If you’re able to filter for all issues in the Epic you want to clone using the Jira Issue Search (Filters > View all issues/work items), you can clone only the relevant parts of the issue tree using Deep Clone’s Bulk Clone feature.
