How to sort backlog by created or update date descending

Question

I want to sort the backlog so the latest issues are up top. I've read several answers here and I've tried adding my own filter queries like

ORDER BY updatedDate DESC

ORDER BY createdDate DESC

but these do not have any effect.

How do I achieve this? It would really make the backlog a lot more functional for me.

Thank you for that additional information.

Custom Filters cannot be used to change the ordering of the issues. Custom filters are used only to reduce the issues that are displayed to the subset of total issues available for display in the board.

The underlying board Filter dictates the sort order of the issues.

Unfortunately for Team Managed projects it is not possible to change the underlying board Filter. That filter is hard-coded to order the issues by Rank. You will not be able to change that for the Board or Backlog views.

Project type is "Team-managed software".

I'm using a "custom filter" that I saved and then apply by clicking the checkbox.

The field I want to use (created/createdDate) does not appear in the view. I want to have this sorting on the "backlog" view, not the "issues" view.

The "issues" view has customizable fields and there I can sort it by date created. But I would like to keep using the "backlog" view for other reasons (the backlog groups tickets by board/backlog and the performance of the "backlog" view is good, while the performance when scrolling on the "issues" view is really not good).

The evidence I have is that the order of tickets never changes. The filter system on the backlog view seems unable to apply the ORDER BY statement. I have not marked anything on the screenshot since the field does not appear there like I said, but you can see the filter I saved, where I applied the queries mentioned in the OP.
