How can I insert a picture/ an image to a dashboard?

Hi,
One of our users would like to show up a screenshot in a dashboard. I read a lot, you can do this via the richtext gadget. But in fact this doesn´t work. It doesn´t matter, if I insert the image directly in the gadget or put it to a JIRA ticket or Confluence page. Does anybody of you have a workaround for me?

You need an app in order to do that, like Rich Text Gadget for Jira which is free and allows you to include images in the gadget.

if your plan is Enterprise then this feature is available in Atlassian Analytics

HI @Martina Guth , not sure whether you found a fix in the end, but this thread still gets a lot of search traffic, so for anyone landing here - the answer is actually already above, in Pasam's own quote from the app listing.

Look at the line "Images served from the web (must be public)". That parenthesis is the whole problem, and it explains all three of the things you tried.

The Rich Text Gadget has nowhere to put a file. It runs on a server outside Atlassian, so it can't store an upload - it can only point at an image that already sits at a publicly reachable address and ask the browser to fetch it.

- Pasting the screenshot straight into the gadget: there's no storage behind it, so nothing is kept.
- A Jira work item attachment URL: that address needs a logged-in Jira session to return the file. The gadget's request doesn't carry one, so Jira hands back nothing and you get a broken image.
- A Confluence page: same session problem, plus a page URL isn't an image URL to begin with.

Atlassian have their own ticket noting the gadget wants a URL rather than the normal Atlassian upload flow - JRACLOUD-67964. So it's a design limit, not something waiting to be fixed.

One other thing worth flagging: the second app suggested above, Custom Content for Jira, is a Data Center app. This thread is tagged Cloud, so it won't be an option.

That leaves two honest routes:

1. Host the image somewhere genuinely public and link to that. Fine for a company logo. Usually a hard no from security for an internal screenshot, which is what you had.
2. Use a gadget that stores the uploaded file itself. This is the thing to check for when comparing options - if the config asks you for a URL, it can't store files and you will land right back here.

The second route is why I built Dashboard Notes & Rich Text for Jira. You drag the screenshot in from your machine and the file is stored inside Atlassian, so there's no public hosting involved anywhere. Drag the corner to resize and the size sticks after saving, which the free gadget can't do either.

Disclosure: that one's mine, so treat it as an interested opinion. Sathish, this is the same reason yours wasn't showing up. If the blocker for either of you is a security review rather than convenience, say so and I'll go into what they normally ask about.
