I want to create an automation: if one of the subtasks' issue types is 'On Hold', the status of the story issue type should be 'On Hold'.

For example: I have subtask issue types (API tasks, test tasks, FSD issues, etc.). If one of these subtasks is 'On Hold', the story issue type should be set to 'On Hold'.

Hi Marsa, 

You can try this automation: 

• Trigger: When issue transitioned to "On hold"
• Condition: Issue Type is one of API subtask, etc 
• Branch: For Parent (Story here)
• Condition: If Children match (some match specific JQL) Status = "On hold"
• Action: Then transition issue to "On hold"

Check that transitions to "On hold" are in place before running the rule (for all types of tickets parent and children).
