What permissions do I need to manage releases for my project?

I am using a Kanban board (not sure if that matters for this). I was recently made project manager for one of our projects and I need to update the Releases associated with this project. My admin says I should have the correct permissions set to do it as project manager, but I am prohibited from doing so. Is there some specific setting or permission that I need for this?

To manage releases for a Jira project, you need project administrator permissions.

My admin says I already have those perms. What could be the reason I still can't do it? I've tried refreshing the page and logging out and back in.

If project admin permission granted to you then you will see the project setting option at the bottom left side and then check the project permissions for the release or version.

How have you determined that you are unable to manage releases? Do you see the Releases option among the project navigation options?

The Releases feature has to be turned on for the project in order to see the option in the project navigation list. You would enable and disable features by going to Project Settings > Features.

Can you check the type of project with which you are working? Go to the View All Projects page under the Projects menu. Find your project in the list. What does it say in the Type column?

Do you see issues for more than one project in your board? The evidence of that would be issues that have different issue key prefixes; i.e. ABC-123 vs. XYZ-456.

Hallo,

I have the same issue as Matthew.

Our requirement

We want to use releases in our project. The feature is already activated, but we can't create or edit new releases. In total four persons should be able to create and edit releases. According to our JIRA admin, we all the admin role for the project.

1.) I can access the releases tab, but I can not create new releases.

2.) According to our JIRA admin, I have the admin role for the project

3.) I am not sure, whether the admin role is actually applied. In the context menu of the project I can't see the link "project settings". In another project the link is shown. According to our JIRA admin this is because I am project lead in the other project. A role which can be assigned only once.

To be able to manage the Releases you must have the Administer Projects permission for the project. This is usually granted to the Administrator role for the project. However, since you have that role and still cannot see the Project Settings option, it appears that Role is not granted that permission.

Your Jira Administrators need to examine the Permissions Scheme associated with the project to see who the Administer Projects permission is granted to, and ensure you are added to a Role or User Group that has that permission, or grant it to you individually.
