Updating description on linked tickets

Question

Have a ticket in 1 project and it is linked to a ticket in another project- the link that is used is "causes".

After the ticket is linked- if a user updates description on ticket 1- how do I get the updated description section reflected in ticket 2?

and the reverse- if an update is made to ticket 2 description- how do I get that updated description reflected in ticket 1?

Yes- description is in reference to the issue's description field.  A ticket is created and someone fills in in description we then create a linked ticket with the linking being "causes" so now there is a 2nd ticket with the original description.  Sometimes the requestor will update info in the description field first ticket and the 2nd ticket still has original info- I want that 2nd ticket to get the updated information.

Hi @Deb Keene , good question! When issues are linked, they don't update each other when activity occurs, it just creates a link between them so you know there's some relationship or commonality between them. Linking them does make it easy to open one while in the other to see the updates AND you can change a few things in the linked issue while in the other issue, but that's all manually done. If seeing updates automatically is really important, you could set up an automation to be notified when a comment is added, the Description field is changed, etc. but that would be a lot of rules firing.

If you need to update the linked issues, you can use automation rule to trigger the linked issue description update.  One clarification - what do you mean by "description"?  Are you referring to issue's description field?

Lastly, you also need to decide what issue updates that will trigger the update to the linked issue - Especially you ask for bi-directional processes between the issues.  If not careful, you can creation a endless loop for the process.
