Too many login attempts detected.

Question

Good morning.

For months I have been dealing with an issue that on my first login of the day to Atlassian (either Jira or Confluence) I receive the message:

'Too many login attempts detected. Please wait for a few minutes before trying again.'

This happens consistently every day and I usually have to wait anywhere between 3-10 minutes to access either system. I am not alone in this as multiple users in my company have reported the same issue in our internal Jira/Confluence users Teams channel since at least as early as April 2024.

Extra info: I use Microsoft single sign-on. I often leave certain confluence tabs open on my browser which require logging back in the next day.

If anyone else has experienced this and diagnosed or fixed the problem I would appreciate your insights, thank you.

Yes if you require VPN to connect on your device then this can impact it.

On your personal device is there any problem there when connecting, as this should no require VPN?

Hi Marc, thanks for the reply.

This happens both on network and on personal network, potentially as we have an inbuilt VPN.

History and cookies removed, and appdata cleared unfortunately had no impact. Sounds like IT my end will have to help with this one.

Welcome to the community.

Is this via your company network or personal connection (home, use your private mobile as hotspot)?

Clear you history and cookies and try it on both connections, is it on both the same?

If so raise an issue at Atlassian Support, if its not (I don't expect this to happen on your private connection) then it seems to have to do something with caching in firewall or proxy.

This mostly happen on a company network, then relate with you IT department on finding the issue
