I am the project lead of a Kanban project and I could take an issue from the Kanban Backlog to the Selected For Development status/column.

 

Yet I couldn’t transition it back to the backlog (please note that the status of issues in the Backlog is “Open” not “Backlog”).

What could be the problem?

Hi Chike,

Generally speaking, you can only move issues between columns in a Kanban board if it's allowed in the related workflow.

So, if you're moving a issue type called 'Task', which has workflow 'Task workflow', in which no transition from 'Selected for Development' back to 'Open'/Backlog, it wouldn't allow it on the Kanban board either.

Could you perhaps share some screenshots (redacted if needed) from your Kanban board configuration and the workflow that is being used for the issue type (task/story/etc) that you are trying to move around on the board?
