Short Text Custom field does not convert URL to link anymore

Question

We have a short text custom field that may contain a text or a URL. When it is a URL, that has always been automatically converted to a link, which is what we want.

After the last update to Jira was rolled out, that field no longer converts URLs to links, its content is now always displayed as simple text regardless of what we type in it.

How can we get our custom field to have URLs automatically converted to links again?

My team is also affected by the short text fields no longer converting to hyperlinks. If we switch to a hyperlink field, we either lose years of historical data by replacing the short text field or end up with duplicate fields—one for the hyperlink and one for historical data—leading to redundant information on older cards.

First, I am just another Jira user and have no knowledge of their progress resolving issues.

I have seen a couple of other posts recently about this symptom, and I wondered if the Atlassian team's in-progress work is creating other symptoms.  I recommend contacting the Atlassian Support team to learn if that is the case.
