Thankfully I am able to start and complete the sprints for this team with my Admin permissions, but I'm stumped as to why two of my managers can't see the Sprint Start button. One of them can see Sprint Complete but hasn't been able to start sprints. This started about two months ago. With the help of Jira Support (thank you!), we were able to identify that the sprints weren't being "created from" the board we thought they were.

So all the checking we were doing against "the board" was the right idea but wasn't valid because it wasn't actually the board that the sprint cared about.

This board-to-sprint connection is currently only available through the REST endpoint.

Hi @Casey Gould unfortunately there's no built-in way to do a side-by-side comparison of permissions....but it sounds like you've checked the typical causes for people not being able to start sprints.

I'm going to add a few more ideas you can try, sorry it's not a clear precise answer but as I'm sure you realize sometimes it could be one of ten different things causing the issue!

Is the sprint originating from the board that they are admins on?
Are there issues on the sprint that reside in other projects (that they may not have permission to)?
Do they have view AND edit permissions enabled (probably a weak shot but sometimes view permissions not being turned on can cause this issue).
Are there any active sprints that are preventing the start of this one?
If all else fails, you can also try clearing the cache or trying a different browser.

Can you please confirm how many projects are returned for the board?

Navigate to your board > ... > Board Settings > General
You can check the projects returned for your board in the "Projects in board" section

Be aware that you will need to have Schedule issues and Manage Sprints permissions to all the projects returned in the board filter and in the Sprint.

Hi @Samuel Gatica _ServiceRocket_ - That's one of the first things we checked, since it's gotten us on other boards, but no, the filter is set to the one project and only the one project is listed there under filter details, as expected.

Are you running parallel sprints?

Hi @Casey Gould , no problem. For point three I was referring to the board.

Another potential cause is that you are trying to run parallel sprints (trying to start one sprint while another is in progress) and don't have parallel sprints enabled?
