What should I use as smart value in automation to get previous value of a custom field of type date?

I am trying to create an automation which activates when a custom field of mine of type Date is changed under certain conditions. The required result is for this custom field to have the old date value set before it changed to the new one. Please help as I am currently using :  

{{issue.fieldChange.fromString}}
