Distribution list as an assignee

Question

Hi everyone,

I need to add a distribution list as a user and make it available in the "Assignee" field for a new project in Jira Software Cloud.

Could you please advise on how to achieve this?

I agree with @John Funk's opinion: if something has multiple responsible people, then very likely there is no-one really responsible.

Nevertheless, if you really want this, you could:

* Hide the built-in "Assignee" field from your screens
* Add a custom field with an intuitive name "Assignees" or "Owners" or something* Either use a group picker* It gives a bit more precise control: you can select a group plus you can administer the members in the group separately.

* Or use a multi-value user picker (you can select zero, one or more users)* It gives a bit more freedom if there is a large variety of "assignee sets".

I wouldn't advise that because they you have no single person responsible for the issue.

If you proceed though, you would create a new user by inviting the distribution list as a user. That would need to have some way in your mail system to receive and email and validate it for the user to be created.
