Time in status custom fields

Hello everyone,

I would appreciate your help in finding a solution using ScriptRunner or any other method you know.

I have set up a field where I want to capture the total time a ticket spends in specific status groups. I attempted to use multiple automations to populate this field, but it didn't work, and I need to use ScriptRunner.

If anyone has tackled a similar challenge, my ultimate goal is to SUM UP the time for several tasks. For example, I want to see the total time each task spent in these status groups at the epic or initiative level as the sum of all the subtasks.

I believe I am not the first or the last to face this need and hope someone has managed to overcome this issue.

There is no built in solution such 'time in status' in Jira for this. For capturing the total time a ticket spends in specific status groups, you can try Time in Status.

For this simply:

* Select Time in Status Report 
* Filter by JQL like project = "name" and issuetype = Task
* Filter issues by setting data and time ranges (there you can set >10d for Certain Statuses)
* Choose necessary statuses to show. (in my project i don't have Submitted, "Section Review" instead of that i've selected "On Review", "Ready for Testing", "Testing")

The Total column on the grid summarizes all time in statuses in which issues were during a particular period.

For more in-depth data analysis, you can create reports as pivots. For example, you can look at the percentage of time spent in different statuses.

Dashboards gadgets feature will keep your finger on the pulse and track team productivity in real-time.

And also you can create a custom field to see Time in Status directly on the board and ticket.

As you can see from the previous answers, this is an area where many Jira users rely on apps from the Atlassian Marketplace to fulfil their status time reporting needs.

If a Marketplace app is an option for you, I think you might like the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields - including all JSM-specific fields - much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a long list of so-called history columns that aren’t natively available, including time in [status], time between [status] and [status], time with [assignee], time with [assignee] in [status], and many, many more.

As you can see above, you can easily sort and filter by your history columns, and also use them across JXL's advanced features, such as support for (configurable) issue hierarchies, issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting. With these, you should be able to solve your exact use case in just a couple of clicks.

Jira doesn't have a built-in solution for time in status info. If you prefer using a marketplace app, you can try Status Time Reports app developed by our team. It mainly provides reports and gadgets based on how much time passed in each status.

This app has a dynamic status grouping feature so that you can generate various valuable reports as time in status, time in assignee, status entry dates and status counts, cycle time and lead time, resolution time, average/sum reports by any field(e.g. average in progress time by project, average cycle time by issue creation month).
