jira-users is missing from a project

Question

Looking at the Project Settings -> People and I see the group jira-users is missing from this project when it should be included.

Since I'm on the free plan, how can I get it added back since it should be there? It's making my life difficult without it there.

Based on the paragraph I pasted from the reference documentation, yes, it would.

Only the one project doesn't have jira-users while all my other ones do so providing read-only access to a user for that one project is impossible with that group attached to it.

If I paid for a month and added the jira-users group to it, would that change stick around after my month ended?

Users and Groups are not added to the People section of projects in the Free plan. All users that are granted access to your Jira instance become administrators for all projects, as documented here:

Permissions, roles, and issue-level security

Project permissions, roles, and issue-level security aren't customizable in Jira Free. If your site has always been on a Free plan, everyone with access to Jira is an admin for all Jira projects. If you change to a Free plan or migrate from Jira Data Center to a Free plan, project permissions are kept in their current state but anonymous access (if you had granted it) is removed. You'll need to upgrade again to change permissions. Read more about Project permissions, roles, and issue-level security in Free plans.

What problem are you actually encountering that you think would be fixed by adding that group to the People section of the project?
