Notion → Confluence bulk importer

Matt Dolan

UPDATE 2024-10-21

The Notion to Confluence importer is now generally available. See https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-articles/Introducing-the-Notion-Importer-Seamlessly-Bulk-Import-Your/ba-p/2813481 for details.

UPDATE 2024-09-04

The early access program is now closed. Stay tuned for the release.

Hi everyone!

I'm a product manager for Confluence. I'm excited to share that we have a new bulk importer tool built to move content from Notion to Confluence Cloud.

We're launching an Early Access Program, and looking for customers to get involved.

The importer can support 10,000s of pages, preserving page hierarchy, formatting, images, attachments, page comments, page permissions and more.
Links and users (e.g. page authors, commenters and @mentioned users) are remapped.
You can import an entire Notion workspace (each teamspace becomes a new Confluence space) or just part of a Notion workspace.

If you're looking to migrate from Notion to Confluence, and are interested in being involved in the EAP, let me know. You'll get access to the new tool before it's generally available, and your feedback will help shape our priorities.

Interested? Email us, or comment here with any questions.

The EAP is now closed, but feel free to comment here with any questions.

Just waiting for one thing: database imports...

Matt Dolan

@Dave Mathijs I hear you.

Currently, Notion database views will be imported as tables on a page, with entries imported as subpages. Also, Confluence Databases do support CSV imports — albeit one at a time. So those may be helpful for some people.

Adding the ability to import databases en masse from Notion into Confluence Databases is planned for the future.

Oh yes.. Does it handle the inline Comments? Are they attributed to the user when moved?

How does it handle Header Images? Title Emojis?

Love this @Matt Dolan!

Matt Dolan

@Matt Reiner _K15t_ haha, that's awesome — thanks for making & sharing that! Just showed it to the rest of the team; we all enjoyed it. Appreciate you getting the word out about the importer EAP.

Matt Dolan

@_A9_ William Kennedy no inline comments yet, just page comments (‘top of page discussions’ in Notion parlance). But those comments are attributed to the correct user, yes.

Right now, header images and title emojis currently get imported as images on the page, rather than as page covers & page emojis. It's on our list of things we'd like to support better — when we get to implementing that largely depends on how important it is to customers. (So if header images and emojis are critical to anyone else, let me know!)

[A9] William Kennedy

Emoji and Covers are pretty important without Notion in the mix.

I emailled to join the early access program too - can we still take part?

Tiffany Chung_hysq5s

Hi all,

Thank you for your interest in the EAP program and for providing valuable feedback. We have now concluded the program and will no longer hold additional sessions from those already booked. Our focus is now on enhancing the Notion Importer for an improved experience.

Thank you once again for your support. Stay tuned for future developments as we prepare for the general availability release!

Hi @Tiffany Chung

I just shot you an email as well. Would it be possible to get access to the Bulk Importer? We have a project about to start where we migration Notion to Confluence and it would beneficial for us to see what is out there in terms of migration tooling. Thanks!

Hello @Tiffany Chung

I sent you an email regarding access to the Bulk Importer feature. This would be helpful for us to import our Notion workspace to Confluence. Thanks!

Christian Raab_hcia8h

Jerry Yu_ltsgrh

I just found this, I know EA closed but anyway I can still join?

Jonathan Carvalho

Hey all, any idea on when this might be released?

Tiffany Chung_hysq5s

Hi all, EAP has closed and we are now all hands on deck with development. As far as release timeline, we are aiming for within the next quarter. Thank you for all your patience and interest!

Hilmi A

Hello @Matt Dolan @Tiffany Chung , i'm excited to hear this feature, it's still possible to get those program right now? Thanks.

Peter Rohne

Hi I'm not sure if this is still an active community page, but I have some specific questions about other's experiences with Notion-> Confluence migrations. We are in the middle of a migration and have run into the following issues.

It would be great if we could get some guidance on how others solved these problems:

1 - Inability to retrieve private pages per user using the Notion API. We are most likely going to have the users perform the migration themselves by providing them instructions for export and import.

2- Seemingly no easy way to migrate inline comments without having to deal with Notion API rate limiting due to making API calls to check each block content for comments per page.

3- Inability for admins to see the existence of private team spaces in Notion, hence we can't migrate them with out querying the user base for their existence.

Thank you

[A9] William Kennedy

@Peter Rohne create a user and access token so you can go through and add the migration account user as Teamspace or Page owner. Export your zips as that user.

I haven’t found a better way to address inline comments except to parse out their elements in the DOM and suitable comments in Confluence.

I am not actively working on this, but you might find something helpful: https://github.com/wjkennedy/notionmover/blob/main/notionmover.py

박현준

I want to use this feature once it's completed and officially released. Where can I quickly find release information?

Oriyah Barzilay

@Peter Rohne Were you able to migrate? We are having issues migrating the pages while perserving the trees

patrick.eiden

My company is also looking to migrate to Confluence after several years of using notion. Would love to get an update on whether this importer will have a release date coming soon?

Ryan Goodyear

A release date for this would be great, but an update on how the EAP went would be really appreciated as well.

Jennifer Wescott

Any idea when this may get released? Mainly wondering if I should hold off on exporting my hundreds of db table pages now one by one or if I should wait. If it's being release in the next couple weeks, I'll hold off.
