At the moment, my Calendar shows all the issues in the same colour, no matter what their status is. Is it possible to show the Done status and In Progress statuses in a different colour, so that I can immediately see, by their colour at what stage the issue is.

The gadget does coloring by Priority, not by Status.

So, if you want to get different colors, you could set the Priority field to a certain value when an issue reaches a specific status.

Thank to all. I have added priority to get different color immediately (as suggested by Danut) but will explore the other options suggest by Maria to get a permanent, tailormade solution.

You’re right — the native Calendar gadget in Jira doesn’t allow color-coding by status out of the box.
If you’d like a bit more flexibility, our team at Teamlead (an Atlassian Marketplace Partner) built an app called Calendar for Jira, which lets you define color rules for your issues using JQL.

This means you can set colors based on status, type, priority, or any other field — for example, showing “In Progress” in yellow and “Done” in green. It helps instantly see which tasks are still active and which are completed, without switching views.

The setup is simple:
1️⃣ Open the app and go to Settings → Card Colors
2️⃣ Pick a color and write a JQL rule (e.g. status = "In Progress")
3️⃣ Save — and your issues will automatically be colored by status

Wow, looks like we've got a proper calendar party going on here! Since everyone's throwing their hat in the ring, I'll join the fun.

We built https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1218390/calendar-for-jira at Doitb, and yeah, it does the color-by-status hing too.

You can set up conditional colors based on status, priority, assignee, whatever field you want really. So your "Done"
issues can be green, "In Progress" yellow, "Blocked" screaming red, you get the idea.

Adding it to your dashboard is pretty straightforward:

1. Go to your Dashboard → click "Add gadget"
2. Search for "Calendar for Jira"
3. Pick your calendar, tweak the colors in settings - done
