Can we have the Copy Space plugin?

Jason Slagle

Even your own internal docs suggest using the copy space plugin to create templates of spaces - yet this plugin is not available in Confluence on Demand.

There are a handful of other useful plugins like the "Advanced Editor" plugin that would be useful.

Hello,

Note that by Atlassian OnDemand Plugin Policy: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/AOD/Atlassian+OnDemand+Plugin+Policy, customers are not permitted to install new plugins or remove existing ones. So, since this is not a Bundled Plugin, you cannot use it.

An alternative is to use Bob Swift's Confluence CLI tool (that you run locally), which has a 'copySpace' function that uses the remote API.

Here's my issue with this policy. I get a new confluence on-demand instance. I go to the docs, and end up here:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Creating+your+Technical+Documentation+Space

I get to step 8, which suggests I copy the space as a template. Oh wait - I can't because the plugin the docs are telling me to use is unavailable, and the only workaround is a CLI app.

It's just inconsistent and makes me setting up new spaces a pain (We're doing a space per customer for our docs, and it'd be easier if I could create a template).

I think either the docs need updated so they represent what you can do, or the plugin needs included.

I agree with Lucas, we use confluence for technical documentation, previously before switching to on-demand you would just copy the current space and name it with the new version number and off you go, now we seem to have no way of copying the space. Prior to the switch we had an engineer verify the copy space was available, evidently he just noted that copy space was mentioned under the ondemand documentation but didn't realize the note that it cannot be used in on-demand, even though its mentioned in the on-demand documentation. I hope atlassian can come up with an official and approved alternative. Another issue we have with documentation is linking to a HEAD version, this would be awesome and would allow us to provide a link that will always link to the most current space/version of a document. If anyone has a great work around for this please let me know.

Here is an example of how to use Bob Swifts CLI for confluence to copy a space in an on-demand instance.

./configure.sh --user=<username> --password=<password> --server=https://instancename.atlassian.net/wiki --action=copySpace --space=<spacekey> --newSpace=<spacekey>

Substitute instancename with your on-demand name and instead of spacekey use the unique key name for the confluence space you want to copy and give the new space a unique key for creation.

We are in the exact same position as you, James. At the moment, we use Copy Space all the time to duplicate a space whenever a product is released with a new version number. (We are still using the On-Premise version by the way)

Without this functionality, On Demand is pretty much unusable for us.

I also agree. I use Copy space all of the time. I'm just starting to look at On Demand. We'd like to use it, but I need things like Copy space.

What are the chances that this will be available as a plugin for On Demand any time soon?

Just a minor observation that might help when looking at our documentation. More specifically when viewing documentation, look for the AOD in the URL (Atlassian OnDemand).

Taking these two unrelated topics to better illustrate:

The AOD following means that everyone pertains to OnDemand:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/AOD/Deleting+or+Disabling+Users

And this is self hosted:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Deleting+or+Deactivating+Users

I realize it doesn't solve the top at hand but from a dileanation standpoint, I hope this helps.

Maurizio

For the benefit of anyone that lands on this page, Atlassian has recently updated the Copy Space Addon to support up to 6.15.*
