Assign Subtask Based on Field

I have an automation setup currently that will create a subtask for testing automatically when a Story is created. How do I assign a user to the subtask based on a custom field in our Story? 

Specifically, I want to make the Pairing Partner IDed in the story to be the default assignee to the subtask for testing.

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

When creating the subtask in your Automation you should be able to set the Assignee field.

Select the Copy option for the field.

That will change what is shown in the field to something like what shows below.

 

Click in the text displayed in the field, and a pop up will display.

You can use those pull-downs to indicate you want to copy a value from the subtask's Parent issue, and specify the Pairing Partner field as the field from which to get the value.
