Character limit of Description field in Jira Software cloud

Hi,

What is the maximum character limit of 'Description' field in Jira software.

One of the team wants this to be more than 500 characters and i have an understanding that its just 250 characters only

The 255 character limit is for single-line text fields, like Summary.
