Is there a way to continue a numbered list or specify a number from which to start?

Once I add a note/info/alert/warning box, there's no way to continue the numbered list above it, or to start another numbered list after it by specifying a different initial number (it always starts at 1).

1. lkjlk;kj (ideally, I can re-start numbering beginning with 3, but I cannot specify the initial number; instead, it starts at 1.)

@Efleda Brophy There was an article posted (in July 2023 when they closed CONFCLOUD-7794, I believe) that I can't find for the life of me that explained the method Atlassian implemented to do this.

Anyway, say you have paragraphs 1, 2, and 3, then you insert an image, a note panel, indented paragraph, etc., and then you want to restart your numbered list with 4.

I believe these are the steps (though I'd feel better if I could link you to the page):

In the next blank paragraph, click the numbered list button to get a numbered paragraph with 1.
Press Backspace to remove the number.
Type 4. and press Space. This restarts your list with 4 (use whatever number you need).
Repeat these steps everywhere you need to continue your list numbering (using the appropriate numbering style for the list level).

Thanks, Barbara! I just tried it, and it's a workaround which serves our purpose. Thank you for sharing!

I need to remember to make sure and check the numbering with every edit because when I deleted one of the numbered line items and re-published the doc, I noticed the list did not re-number automatically. I need to share this with authors who might edit their own documents.

Hello This workaround did not work for me.

I tried it even with new clean page. Steps 1 and 2 are easy enough, but on step 3 after hitting the space bar, it does not restart the numbering.

This did not work for me either. I find it especially challenging when there are bullets under a numbered step.

I found a potential solution...

Create the list as normal.
For content between the numbered lines use SHIFT+ENTER to add a line break. You can add paragraph content or tables on this new line without interrupting the line numbering.

For example:

Line one
Line two
This is extra content
Line three
