Free Plan Subscription: I can't add users to a space

Luigi Crocetta

Hi,

i currently have a free plan and I'd like to collaborate with some friends on a small project.

When I'm on the main page of the Space, if i click on the three dots (on the top of the page) and then on "Permissions", I can't add other people to the Space.

The message says "You're using a Free plan, so you can't modify permissions. To modify permissions, upgrade your plan".

Does that mean that i can't add any other user to a specific space?

Is it really not possible for users with a Free Plan, to add other users to share the space content?

If so, this limitation sounds totally no-sense because forces you to pay to do a super-basic activity.

Or maybe, I'm just following the wrong steps. In case, please, could you tell me where.

At the moment, to manage to do it, I had to switch to a Premium plan (Free trial).

Thank you for your support and explanation.

Hi @Luigi Crocetta

Let's split your issue into two topics.

add collaborators to your free Confluence site
let random users to access your Confluence content

The good news is that you can build a solution here.

Add collaborators to your Confluence site

In Confluence, click the icon in top left corner.
Drop down menu opens.
Click Administration.
List of your products appears.
Find your Confluence, click three dots.
Select Manage users.
Users page opens.
Invite users.

You can have 10 users on Confluence Free.

They will be able to read and edit your content but you can't get more granular with user permissions.

Let random users to access your Confluence content

The limit of Free Confluence is that you cannot make your content available for anonymous users (you cannot create a public site).

Having said that, there are apps (think of Confluence as a platform like iOS or Android - you can install apps from the Marketplace. and a LOT of them are free for 10 user tiers) that create a dedicated website for you from your Confluence Free content.

That way, you can do all your collaborative editing in your Free Confluence, then, once it's ready, publish the content to the public site for your audience.

I'm a long-term user of Scroll Viewport by K15t - it's not free, but it allows you to keep your free Confluence license. This approach offers the advantage to have you editing completely private and secure, while only publishing stuff out to the public when ready.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask more questions.

Disclaimer: I don't work for K15t, I'm just a happy user of their Confluence tools.

Hi @Luigi Crocetta

You can't modify permissions when on the Free plan.

That means all users within your instance can view all of your Spaces - you don't need to "grant" them any additional access

Hi Stephen,

thank you for your quick reply.

I can't modify permission concerning specific spaces ok.

What if i wanted to collaborate (and show/edit) my document with selected users only? What's the correct way to do it?

When I try to modify permission option from a Space, Confluece suggests me to remove permission from it, but does that mean that any confluence user in the world will be able to find/see/read my documents?

In other words, is the access to all my Spaces (plural) still secured by any sort of privacy setting?

Sorry if I seem so fussy, but I find this part of the "access management" in Confluence very ambigous and confusing.

Thanks.

Hi @Luigi Crocetta

On a Free plan, only users with direct access to your site can see the Spaces - so it's not public to anyone else.

So if a user has a login to your instance, they can see all the Spaces.

Any other restriction or permission (eg. restricted access to only some of your users, or making Confluence public) requires a paid plan.

Hello, having the same problem here!

I want to add users / collaborators to my space, but I have the same pop-up: The message says "You're using a Free plan, so you can't modify permissions. To modify permissions, upgrade your plan".

I went to the admin.atalassian and added a new user. it shows this person is a "user" in Confluence but I can't add them?

Any help will be appreciated
