What is the impact on my metrics of changing statuses of the workflow?

I need to change a couple of statuses in the workflow to match the new column names (done dev becomes code review and PO validation becomes PO Review, nothing too crazy!) but i wondered if I delete the old statuses will it affect my metrics? should i wait until the end of the sprint to change them or delete the old statuses?

Its' one of the practices, that someone uses and someone does not. Which is also fine. As John, mentioned you can delete the statuses right from your active workflow.

Thank you Nikola! Why is it necessary to make the workflow inactive, what does this mean exactly? I'm very new to Jira been working on it for 6 weeks only, first role as a Scrum Master.
