Can no longer print a confluence page from the browser

Using the browser Print function in Chrome, a Confluence page will print all blank (apart from the page header and footer). If the print option 'background graphics' is checked, the page content prints but with a grey screen covering the whole page.

I'm aware you can export to pdf and print, but that uses a font that might be readable on the screen, but is too small when printed.

The browser Print did work until recently.

Hi @Peter Priestley ,

You can try the following steps:

Delete your Chrome browser's cache.
Reset Chrome browser settings to default.

If these solutions do not work, Uninstall and reinstalling Chrome can help resolve printing issues caused by corrupted installation files.

I'm not sure what the browser printing issue you mention is, but you should be able to adjust the font size in the PDF and try printing it.

I can reproduce the problem on multiple computers - in fact I can't find any that work. The problem also happens with Microsoft Edge browser.

No change here Brendon. - I still have the issue. I think it needs to be escalated somehow - I doubt if Atlassian actually listens to this community.

This bug still exists today (16 January 2025). It does not seem to be a browser specific problem. Even Firefox does not work and I have just configured a new notebook. It does not seem to be device specific as it does not work across the company.

I am still using the workaround of exporting the page to PDF...

We have the same issue, but found a workaround (see below).

On Google Chrome, even PDF export isn't working (latest Chrome 134.0.6998.178). Without selecting "background" in the printing dialog, we get a white page, no matter if I try to print or export to PDF. If I select “Background graphic”, the text appears, but against a dark gray background. Note: This is not a single computer issue

Printing somehow works with Firefox. However, a meaningless blank page is inserted above the document. But you can select "print from page 2" to solve this annoyance.

To sum it up:
Printing is basically broken. And Atlassian doesn't care. The problem is related to the technical implementation of content pages (Javascript?). Some of the automatically generated overview pages work without any workaround.

WORKAROUND for Chromium-based browsers

A colleague has found a workaround. You need to select “Minimum margins” or "no margins" in the extended print dialog. Then you can print in Chrome without any problems.

"Standard" or "user defined" is not working.

No helpful response from Atlassian and no fix within a year is not acceptable. The fact that we have found a workaround does not mean “problem solved”. Reducing or removing margins causes new issues.

Most content in Confluence never needs to be printed. But we have checklists and contingency plans that we need to print. Have you ever opened an emergency list in Confluence when the Internet was down?
