Requirements and/or E2E Testing Traceability Matrix

Question

Our team of Project/Product Managers are hoping to use Confluence to create a full, end-to-end traceability matrix for testing, but possible for requirements as well. This is purely for tracking/managing purposes - to point to the links where the actual testing is taking place or make comments/notes of the outcome or latest status. Also to note pass/fail (we would use status or info tags).

The 'old school' way was always in a spreadsheet/smartsheet and we are struggling to replicate that in a way that is easy to read/navigate in. We aren't able to expand enough columns as we would need. Also, we are aware of the RTM add-on, but our company is maxed out on what we are spending to use the Atlassian tools and are a bit perturbed that everything we need seems to come at an added cost per-use but such is life.

Hi @Alana A_ ,

If you're using a test management tool, such as Xray, you can see if it provides information about traceability. If it's the case, then the traceability report may be good enough and provides all that info inside Jira itself.

I understand you are looking for a solution without having to buy an app. From what we've seen with our customers, you could build your own traceability matrices with tables in Confluence pages, and add some custom fields and links to Jira issues.

You can try this solution, but if you realise it just won't work for you, our app helps to write requirements in Confluence with macros. With the Jira integration, you can link to Jira issues, and then build Traceability matrices in Confluence with the Jira information.
