How can I copy an existing issue type to create as a new issue type with similar features?

The existing Service Request with Approvals issue type is great, but I want to create an issue type that has the approvals at the end of the issue.

For example, a controlled document update needs to be approved by the QA person after the document change is done. The existing Service Request with Approvals has the approvals at the start of the request. We use this issue type but need to create a new one for document control updates.

I couldn't find a copy feature for an existing issue type.

I think you’re a little confused here. To create a new issue type just created and then add it to your issue type scheme. No need to do a copy.

But since you reference approvals, those are seen in the workflow which is attached to the issue type. So it sounds like you just need to copy the workflow and make changes to it and not copy the issue type.

@John Funk OK, I have the new workflow, I've assigned it to a new Issue Type. How do you assign an existing Request Type to this new Issue Type? I'm so close to getting this to work but I can't find the right place in my Service Project settings. Here's a screenshot of where I want to automatically assign a Request Type for the user.

Actually I DO want to copy an issue type. When I am making a new issue type that shares many fields with an existing one, it would be so much easier to copy the first one and then modify. And that copy should also offer to copy all the associated workflows, projects ...

The current method is incredibly unnecessarily convoluted.

Hi @Stephanie Wald , if you are using CMP projects, that is the purpose of Field Configuration Schemes. You can share a scheme or copy and tweak to your needs. Fields are not a property of issue types but rather issue types have an associated Field configuration and field configuration scheme. Hope this helps.

We don't have Field Configuration Schemes in our projects ... so that's not solving my problem.
