How to do a syntax condition for blank

Hello all!  I have an automation rule that is failing and I think its because my syntax for smart condition is not correct.  Can someone help me with what I have wrong and how to fix?  I am trying to see if the parent (or Epic) link is blank meaning that the ticket is not created from an epic

{{issue.parent.epic Link}} does not equal {}

Hi Kelly,

if you’re using a Jake statement, it would be is empty. So, {{issue.parent}} is empty

For a question like this, please post an image of your complete automation rule, images of any relevant actions / conditions / branches, an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution, and explain what is not working as expected.  Those will provide context for the community to offer ideas.  Thanks!

Often to test for an empty field, you may just use a basic condition, but for the field not in the dropdown lists, the Smart Values condition (formerly known as Advanced Compare) is used.  Please try comparing:

* first value: {{issue.parent}}
* condition: equals
* second value: leave the field empty
