Images not displaying in Whiteboard

Hi, I have used the new Whiteboard feature in Confluence and love the feature.

I have just looking to use it again to assist in a planning workshop, however found an issue with adding images to a new board I have created. Any image I add to the board only displays as a grey box.

Has anyone seen this behaviour before, is it a feature that is not yet fully implemented, or is this a known bug?

When you zoom out far enough, we replace images with gray boxes to improve performance. However, we didn't consider that you might have large images on a whiteboard that should still appear even when zoomed out.

We've made some changes to detect when this happens and continue to show images instead of hiding them.

Please try using images on a whiteboard again, and let us know if the issue is solved. You'll still occasionally see grey boxes, but only if all images are very small.

The feature of Confluence Whiteboards is still in beta, and certain functionalities, including image support, may not be fully implemented or may have limitations. As a workaround, it is recommended to ensure that the images are in supported formats such as PNG, JPEG, SVG, GIF, or WEBP, and to reach out to Atlassian support for further assistance.

I did try both PNG and JPEG image formats, and had the same issue. It still seems to be a bug with a feature that is meant to be supported (albeit on a beta product) as noted here - Add and edit images on whiteboards | Confluence Cloud | Atlassian Support.

@Paul Sherry what zoom level are you on? There may be a chance if you are too zoomed out you will see the grey state

Hey @Christina Ristevski , this looks like it may have been the issue. I had thought I checked this previously, but just checked again after reading your note above.

It looks like anything below a zoom level of 10% (so 8%, 5% and 3% etc.) shows the grey box placeholder and not the image. Zoom out to 10% and higher and the image renders correctly.

The relative dimensions of the images I pasted in were proportionally quite big, so the zoom setting of the whiteboard may already have been <10% when I was initially drafting the board. The question I have now is why images even at a board zoom of less than 10% don't render even if they are resized to be as large as possible? If you do this all you see is grey, so no real visual indicator there is an image there at all.

Having a play now and trying to work out why I was zoomed in so far (still not sure why), what I am just thinking is it would be great to have a Group Objects function, so you could resize multiple objects at once! (Locking objects together does not allow you to resize the grouped objects at all).
