Is it possible to to change custom field multiple-select to single-select dropdown?

Question

Hi,

I have a field in the issue screen called "Agile squad" that has multiple options (These are the areas of base functional teams for the app). A task should be done by one team at a time.

While initiation a team may be team A assigned to it but after the documentation phase is completed may be the same A team will be supposed to work on that or maybe it is assigned to team B.

In the current scenario when assigned to team A, team A remains in the issue, and team B just adds their tag.

is it possible for this field to switch from multi-select to single-select? and while changing I can set that for certain epics Team A should be removed and Team B remain in this custom field.

Just install Doctor Pro for Jira and use merging custom field option. It takes care of filters, context, screens and migration of data. Super easy and reliable solution.

you can't change the type of a custom field; you'll have to create your new custom field to co-exist with the old custom field, then transfer the data over, and finally delete the old custom field.

The tricky part is really the data transfer from the old field to the new field, especially considering that you want to do some data manipulation in between. Have a look at this thread for a possible starting point based on Jira Automation as well as a solution from the Atlassian Marketplace.
