I read about the new confluence database feature - https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/create-and-edit-databases/. Are there ways to interact with the database via the REST API? I cannot find info in the docs.

Unless I am mistaken, the recently introduced features databases and whiteboards are implemented with the "custom content" entity.
Therefore, a database is a custom content, and there are a few REST API end-points for custom contents. Try those.
