When I add more than image, they are lined up vertically instead of horizontally. The images are stacked vertically and will not show next to each other.

Confluence starts with a basic linear page, so your images are simply being listed one line at a time.
But you can add "layout" sections, and layouts can have two or three columns. If you put your images in these you can do things like
Line 1 - image1Line 2 - some textLine 3 - |image 2| image 3| image 4 |line 4 - more textline 5 - | image 5 | some more text | Look for the two column button in the editor bar - looks like a standard "pause" button to me ;-)

I like @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- answer and I often use the page layouts for this.
Another option is to use a table placing your graphics in the cells.
