JQL for the parent of a subtask

Hi

If I know the key of a task, then to list the subtasks, the JQL is: parent = <key>

But what about the other way around: knowing the key of a subtask, what would the JQL be that returns the parent (ie: the task) that this subtask is under?

As far as I know, it is still not doable with the built-in JQL facilities on Cloud.

But there are several apps that provide extensions in form of additional JQL functions. This app is one of them and it will help you with this query: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/JQL-for-the-parent-of-a-subtask/qaq-p/2553665

There are others, so you may want to do your own research!

Hi @David Stokes ,

you can find the parent task of a subtask by using the "issue in parentIssuesOf()" function.

For example,

issue in parentIssuesOf("SUBTASK-123")

Replace "SUBTASK-123" with the key of your subtask. This query will return the parent task that the specified subtask is linked to.
