Convert Epics into Stories

Question

Is there a way to reclassify Epics that were incorrectly created as Epics to Stories? Asking for a similar process of how you can convert an existing Sub Task for example into a Task but for an Epic to a Story. We have a lot of Epics that were incorrectly created as Epics but should be Stories but hoping that we don't have to go through one by one, create the Story to replicate the Epic, and then delete each of the Epics.

Unfortunately the link between the original epic and children will be removed when a issues is converted  from Epic issue type to another . As you can see in the confirmation steps for the move operation it shows that the epic name, epic link, epic color will be cleared and the links are removed.

Thank you. Will all of the Tasks that were attached to the Epic still transfer over to the Story when the Epic is converted into a Story?

Hi @Jimmy Kim

To convert an Epic to story please follow the below steps

1.  click on the epic you want to convert into story

2. select the 3dot icon (actions) in the left top corner of the issue view page

3.Next select the "MOVE" option

4.In move issue page there will two options as select project and select  issue type under the select project there will be current project to new project give the same project name which the epic is in the new project  and under the issue type there will be current issue type to new issue type select story in the new issue type dropdown

5.select next and confirm the changes

Now the epic will changed into a story

If you have many epics that needs to be converted into story create a JQL with all the epics that you need to convert and place that JQL in the issue navigator and select bulk changes

1.choose the issues 
2.Select move issues under the operations

3.Keep the projects name same and change the issue type to story 
4.click on next and confirm the changes

All the issues from the JQL you provided will be converted from Epic to story
