Where does the list of users come from for the Version Driver?

There is a Releases screen with list of versions for the projects. I wanted to edit the version and update the Driver behind such release but the list of users available is somewhat limited and I don't understand where is comes from. I checked people added to the project (Project Setting → People) and it's not the same: some people who are on the driver list are not on this one.

Where the list of users comes from for the Driver field?

Hi @Anton Efimov

The field is a searchable drop-down - so it'll show a range of users, but you can search via a user's name and it should also show up as it searches.

The Driver also has to be a Project Administrator.

Hey! Thanks, I've checked this docos and it wasn't very useful tbh.

So, it will search among all project administrators? Cause it shows the people who are not part of the project. And people, who belong to the project are not searchable: I've tried to search for them of course. It shows "No options".

I can elaborate why I need this: I want to assign a developer to be a driver for the release. The developer is on the project and has roles like "Developer", "Member" and the likes. And when I search for such developer in that searchbox they aren't shown.

With a little more testing (assuming this is Company-managed), it seems a user needs these 2 permissions:

Browse Projects
Administer Projects

So whatever Project Role a user has within your Project, that role must have access to the 2 permissions above - often Developers/Members don't have "Administer Projects", which is potentially the issue.

I also found though it is any user with that permission either via a permission scheme or by default, so this includes Product Admins / Site Admins too.

Thanks for going extra mile to check this. Unfortunately, I don't think this is the case.

I see people in the list of drivers who don't have the "Administer Projects" permissions.

I also checked the Permissions tab and couldn't spot anything unusual there

I also think it's a little bit odd the logic that you described. With that logic only Admin users (Administer Projects) can be the drivers, eh? 🤔

How would I allow someone to be the driver without granting them the Administer Projects permissions?
